Ukraine is one of the rare countries throughout the world that develops and manufactures aerospace technologies, as well as skilled personnel is trained in these fields. The National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute” (NAU “KhAI”) is a leading Ukrainian educational institution training experts in this field.
1930 was the year of the University’s establishment. Its history is inextricably linked to the aviation industry and science development. The KhAI is renowned for developing the first high-speed airplane with retractable landing gear within Europe, as well as the design of the turbojet engine developed by the KhAI teacher A. M. Liulka, who eventually became an academician and designer of many aircraft engine structures, along with the engine for the Su-27.
In addition, NAU “KhAI” provides high-quality educational and scientific services to its students and partners, but it is also boosting its international activities and reinforcing existing partnerships. Annually, international representatives come to the “KhAI” to offer collaboration in research and education. The university is involved in an increasing number of international programs and initiatives. Moreover, NAU “KhAI” scientific laboratories made a number of high-tech breakthroughs in cooperation with well-known companies and research institutes in such countries as France, Germany, Finland, Israel, Australia, and other countries.
The work of administration office and personnel leads to worldwide renown in both the educational and scientific community. The University holds membership in the following institutions and programs:
● the International Association of Universities IAU / UNESCO;
● the European association of aviation scientists (EASN);
● the Great Charter of Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum);
● the International Association of technical universities of the CIS;
● TEMPUS FP-7;
● ERASMUS +.
The university cooperated with a number of foreign institutions to develop innovative teaching and research programs, as well as to enhance both students and teachers’ knowledge, gain new experience in studying abroad, and building bridges with international colleagues. Annually, more than 200 students and teachers acquire new knowledge and experience abroad. Here is the list of universities for joint training:
● the Turin Polytechnic University (Italy);
● the University of Otto von Guericke (Germany);
● Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (China).
Additionally, NAU “KhAI” and the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics conclude an agreement on Masters’ and Postgraduates’ scholarship programs. Furthermore, the University annually welcomes international students to its summer school in several areas of the aerospace sector.
NAU “KhAI” is a prominent university among international students. Over 1,400 (from 45 countries) foreigners are trained in the University.
The KhAI intends to a city within a city, because of its location in the forest-part zone with a total area of around 25 hectares. The university includes six academic buildings, a research center and labs, a library with one million volumes in stock, a campus, a recreation center, a swimming pool, a first-aid clinic, dining halls, a bank, and a children’s playground, along with other facilities.
