We are delighted that you have decided to study at our partner Universities in Ukraine, Russia, Uzbekistan, Poland, Latvia, and Georgia, and look forward to you joining us soon. Before arriving in the country of study, every student needs to have a pre-departure briefing

Pre-departure briefings are events run by the Edugain Overseas support staff and admission managers, for anyone planning to study in our partner Universities in Europe and Asia. They are usually held for a few hours and include talks and workshops that give students the advice they need to start their studies with confidence. Information sessions cover the essential information students need to start settling in when they arrive, including accepting their offer, VISA applications, arranging accommodation, opening a bank account, and health and well-being.

Obviously that students have many things to arrange before their arrival and it is sometimes difficult to know where to start. Edugain Overseas` staff hope that this page will help students in preparations and give them an idea of what to expect after arriving.

First thing first, check with your airline on carrier restrictions i.e. how many bags are allowed and what’s the maximum weight? All excess luggage is to be paid on a Kg basis and may prove expensive.

Clothes to bring!

Students dress casually, and informally in jeans, t-shirts, and jumpers, but several sets of official clothes will be necessary. Our company recommended to every student carry warm clothes like coats, boots, caps, gloves scarf, etc, and things of personal hygiene, but do not buy too many winter clothes until you get to the University.

For your journey in the period of September – October, you could carry with you an easy jacket, jeans, socks, and boots while during the winter months of November – December you would need to carry a warm coat, a sweater, warm trousers, boots, cap, and gloves. In addition to casual clothes, you may want to bring formal clothes for special events such as formal conferences or seminars. You may also want to bring your national costume for international student events.

Among electrical products please only bring small items such as hair dryers, shavers, and laptops. Please do not bring more than two suitcases and make sure that you can lift and carry these suitcases.

Please do not bring:

  • Rice cookers, food, or cooking utensils. The case will be too heavy for carrying! You can buy saucepans, plates, and other cooking utensils in every country you choose for living and studying in supermarkets and shopping malls close to University residences.
  • Food. Almost every city with our partner Universities has many international food stores, large supermarkets, and markets where you will be able to find many ingredients available in your home country. You can also use the canteen, mess or restaurants for everyday meals.
  • Anything you would hate to lose. Leave at home valuable or expensive-looking jewelry, all unnecessary credit cards, library cards, and similar items you may routinely carry in your wallet.
  • Toiletries. You can easily buy abroad everything you need. If you finally decided to bring it, remind that you have a luggage weight restriction, and shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, or toothpaste can be unneeded weight.

Ensure that you are carrying your international passport and original Invitation letter in your hand luggage!
