     Donetsk National Medical University has the IV (the highest) level of accreditation in Ukraine, and it has greatly contributed to the development of Ukraine’s higher educational system, medical science and health services. As of now, over 1120 teachers work at 82 departments of Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU).


Donetsk National Medical University ranks as Ukraine`s number one medical university graduates of which become great doctors and future scientists.

     Donetsk National Medical University welcomes thousands of students from over 190 countries who speak over 140 languages.

     Donetsk National Medical University offers a huge range of graduate and postgraduate courses, as well as numerous resources and facilities for students’ free use.. University is located in the heart of Kropyvnitskyi, Kirovohrad. It is a major international, business, cultural and communication centre and one of the most beautiful and historical cities of the world. Recently Donetsk National Medical University has opened one more campus in Mariupol city.

     Donetsk National Medical University is recognized by the World Health OrganizationI-MED School, Medical Council of India, Nepal Medical Council, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, European Universities Association and by many other countries.

     Since March 2004, Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) has been appointed as the primary regional centre for implementing the Bologna process in Ukraine. DNMU students have the opportunity to attend various exchange programs with other European medical universities and, upon obtaining specialist’s degree, they will have very good job prospects in Europe and America.


Donetsk National Medical University was the first medical university in Ukraine and in Eastern Europe who started the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry in English language for foreign students.

     Foreign students study in groups of 10-12 students. Second-year students attend their clinical studies where they gain experience by nursing patients. Clinical subjects are taught starting from the third year of study. Students are free to pick disciplines compulsory for a specific course, as well as any of those which may potentially become useful .

     Students can choose their future specialization out of various courses presented in Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU):

     The duration of the course is 2 years for diploma and 4 years for a bachelor’s degree. 

     Degree awarded: Bachelor of Nursing


     Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) offers post graduate studies in all medical fields.

     The duration of the study is 2-3 years.


     This is a Russian intensive program for students wishing to continue their studies at Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) or any other University in Ukraine.

     The duration of the preparatory course is 1 year.

     Upon successful completion a diploma is awarded.


     This course is specially designed for the foreign students who do not meet the requirements necessary for the undergraduate programs; it also helps students bridge the gap between school and university.        

     The duration of the foundation course is 1 year.

     Donetsk National Medical University is nationally known for its many innovative teaching methods, clinical training and research programs. Our award-winning faculty members constantly strive for innovation and excellence in classrooms, laboratories and clinics. Because study groups are relatively small, our faculty members get to know each student.

     Training of physicians is conducted under the guidance of experienced teachers, doctors and candidates of medical sciences. Teaching is carried out according to modern standards of higher educational establishments. The main goal of departments is to train qualified physicians for any work-related situations by providing extensive training.

     In the undergraduate program, during six years of study students learn different subjects from fundamental disciplines to special medical disciplines.

     The faculty provides comfortable atmosphere, highly qualified teaching staff  and big library for study purposes. The fact that all graduates work within the specialty after graduation shows that DNMU is not only a high-ranking university, but professors thereof are competent enough to help students achieve their goals.

     All six years of the program are important and must be completed successfully before students are permitted to graduate.

     The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as well as the Ministry of Health of Ukraine approved the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine. Mostly all countries in the world recognize the degree of Donetsk National Medical University.

According to the syllabus, state final examinations on all disciplines are held in two stages:

     1. Testing practical proficiency of final-year students (when exams on clinical disciplines are taken, testing takes place at a hospital);

     2. Testing scientific / theoretical proficiency.

Students who successfully finish five years enter the internship program in order to be prepared to defend a thesis on graduation. There is a wide range of specializations available in the public and private sectors like research, academic medicine, public health, clinical medicine and other areas. Specialties include Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychological Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Public Health, General Practice and many others. Most doctors complete postgraduate training in their chosen specialty.


     In Donetsk National Medical University there are 11 different institutes working in different fields for research and international cooperation in medicine.


     – the Center of Endoscopic Surgeries;

     – the Center of the International Cooperation;

     – the Center of Cellular and Fabric Transplantation;

     – the Regional Medical Center “Medicine and Safety of Work”;

     – the Center of Dermocosmetology and Aesthetic Medicine;

     – the International Medical Physical and Chemical Center;

     – Clinic for Joints of Endoprotezic Therapy;

     – the Central Research Laboratory;

     – the Donetsk Regional Center of Protection of Motherhood and Childhood.

     In Donetsk National Medical University there are 23 theoretical departments where students get their training. All the departments and classes are well-equipped with new computer labs, teaching staff is proficient in English, and all materials related to subjects are available to students.

  13. Department of Medical Biology.

     In Donetsk National Medical University there are 19 clinical departments working under DNMU, wherein students get their clinical and practical training. Almost all clinical departments of DNMU are located in different hospitals of Donetsk, and most hospitals are located at the campus of the Donetsk National Medical University. Students have full rights to use clinical labs of all the hospitals. Laboratories utilize all modern facilities and equipment.

  13. Department of Urology;
  14. Department of Surgery, Endoscopy, Otorhinolaryngology Reconstructive Surgery;
  15. Department of Oncology and Radiology;
  16. Department of Ophthalmology;
  17. Department of Pediatrics, Neonatology and Pediatric Infections;
  18. Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Addiction and Medical Psychology;
  19. Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Military Surgery.


     Additionally, students have an opportunity to obtain a degree related to biomedicine. Please find the list thereof below.

     In Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) the academic year is divided into two semesters:

  • The first semester starts in either in September or October and lasts until the last week of December.
  • The second semester starts either in January or February and lasts until mid-July.

     Within the week there are 5 working days, Saturday and Sunday are days off. The studies are scheduled from 8.00 to 16.00. The student’s working week comprises 54 hours; within this time period there are 36 lecturing hours and 18 hours for independent work.
     The teaching course consists of semesters, summative assessment and vacations. The teaching year is 12 months and comprises teaching days, days of final control, examination sessions, days off, weekends and public holidays. Visiting all kinds of studies (except for consultations) is obligatory for the students.
Summer vacation covers the month of July and august.

     During holidays students may have easy access to CIS & all countries in Europe by bus, train and flights. Special program and trips are also available to enable students to experience first hand the transition process in Russia or Ukrainian, CIS counties and elsewhere in Europe.
