The University of Economics in Katowice was founded in December 1936 (by the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs and Public Education of the Republic of Poland of 1936) as a private School of Social and Economic Sciences.
Each year over 11 000 Polish and international students follow our degree programmes at the Bachelor, Master, Doctoral and Post-diploma levels at our five faculties: Business, Finance and Administration, Economics, Finance and Insurance, Informatics and Communication, and Management.
The students and graduates of the university engage in the development of the region in the course of their professional lives: managing companies, organizing socioeconomics, taking part in a wide range of business activities.
Due to the balance between academic strength and soft skills in the courses as well as professional career services the employability of the graduates of the University of Economics in Katowice is very high. University of Economics in Katowice participates in various projects, often in partnership with companies and public institutions. Over the years, the University has cooperated with such entities as: Amazon, Decathlon, Elamed, FAMUR, ING Bank Śląski, Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Tarnowskie Góry, Koleje Śląskie, Silesian Museum, Radio Katowice

Katowice is the main city of Upper Silesia – a historical part of Poland. Katowice City has plenty of green spaces and parks such as Silesian Culture, Refreshment park, Tadeusz Kosciuszko Park and Zadole park which are tourist attractions of the city. Today Katowice’s city center is packed with modern architecture, and filled with cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs to match all tastes. Those seeking more conventional interpretations of the word ‘attraction’ will find plenty of cleaned-up 19th century architecture in the form of handsome townhouses in Downtown Katowice. One of the best museums in southern Poland is the Silesian Museum, on the site of the former Katowice Coal Mine, which today forms the city’s Cultural Zone.
Speaking of entertainment, Katowice is a big international center for theatrical and stage events. The city hosts music festivals such as the Rawa Blues, the Tauron New Music Festival, the Silesian Jazz Festival, and the Mayday Festival, which attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. The nightlife is Katowice, one every student should enjoy. There’s no shortage of clubs and other places of interest where you could enjoy some free time away from studying.
The Dormitory is situated about 20 minutes by bus (very good public transport connections) from the main University buildings, in Ligota – a green and quiet district of Katowice, with its own center and railway station. The dormitory is located near a big student residential area consisting of dormitories from almost all higher education institutions in Katowice.
The sports facilities of the university include an indoor swimming pool, 2 gyms, and a sauna.
The University of Economics in Katowice maintains international partnerships with numerous higher education institutions. The cooperation includes such initiatives as: the ERASMUS program, business trips of academic and administrative staff, organization of scientific conferences and promotional events, as well as joint international programs and projects. UE Katowice has signed partnership agreements with selected universities located in Albania, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Colombia, South Korea, Lebanon, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mauritius, Norway, Palestine, Paraguay, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, and the United Kingdom.
