About University

Ilia State University was founded in 2006 as a result of a merger of six different academic institutions with long and varied histories.  Currently, it is one of the leading research and educational institutions in Georgia.  Representing a union of students and professors, ISU is a multifunctional educational and research institution offering a common space for academic and professional education and research with the joint efforts of its students, professors, teachers, and researchers. 

Students, teachers, professors, and researchers are free to choose areas of study and research, as well as colleagues and supervisors to work with. No one has the right to forbid them from conducting studies on a certain topic or publishing research findings for political or moral reasons. Students and professors are free to choose any form of transparent and responsible self-governance they believe is best for the advancement of their union– the university–and its goals and objectives. 

University owns well-equipped auditoriums and computer classes, computer study programs, teaching laboratories, the university library, scientific facilities, student and lecturer electronic system – ARGUS, electronic teaching portal “Moodle”. Research institutes of the university (Institute of Medical and Public Health Research) and facilities of partner organizations ensure the development and strengthening of clinical-practical and scientific-research skills. 

Ilia State University welcomes around 5,000 freshmen every year at all levels of higher education. ISU strives to meet each student’s needs and help them reach their potential. Ilia State University equips its students with an all-around experience to provide them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence in order to achieve future career goals. ISU provides an advanced and dedicated academic community where students can learn from experts and gain the qualification they are looking for.

ARGUS

After the official enrollment is out, all students at Ilia State University have an internal electronic system for selecting the courses and following/managing their academic process.

On Argus, students are allowed to:

• register the courses from mandatory, mandatory-elective, elective, as well as free credit sections;
• obtain information on course materials throughout the semester;
• check the midterm and final exams results during the semester;
• check the financial information;
• write the statements and request different types of documents;
• get notifications and announcements from the administration and professors 

Accommodation and Campus 

Ilia State University offers a variety of services where students can try all kinds of academic, social, and cultural activities. The university’s “Ligamus” bookstore offers a wide selection of books from Georgian and foreign publishers. The Theater is the first and only professional theater in the Georgian educational environment and is active since 2010. Unifood is a catering service that offers ISU students delicious dishes from European and Georgian cuisine for a rather reasonable price. Here you can take advantage of free wifi and spend time with other students by tasting the local specialties. 

Ilia State University can help you find accommodation and offers options at affordable prices regarding apartments in Tbilisi, close to campus. Ilia State University does not have its own dormitories. The University offers affordable housing options in contracted apartments in Tbilisi.
