Student Life in Katowice

Katowice is the main city of Upper Silesia – a historical part of Poland. Katowice City has plenty of green spaces and parks such as Silesian Culture, Refreshment park, Tadeusz Kosciuszko Park and Zadole park which are tourist attractions of the city. Today Katowice’s city center is packed with modern architecture, and filled with cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs to match all tastes. Those seeking more conventional interpretations of the word ‘attraction’ will find plenty of cleaned-up 19th century architecture in the form of handsome townhouses in Downtown Katowice. One of the best museums in southern Poland is the Silesian Museum, on the site of the former Katowice Coal Mine, which today forms the city’s Cultural Zone.

Speaking of entertainment, Katowice is a big international center for theatrical and stage events. The city hosts music festivals such as the Rawa Blues, the Tauron New Music Festival, the Silesian Jazz Festival, and the Mayday Festival, which attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. The nightlife is Katowice, one every student should enjoy. There’s no shortage of clubs and other places of interest where you could enjoy some free time away from studying.

The Dormitory is situated about 20 minutes by bus (very good public transport connections) from the main University buildings, in Ligota – a green and quiet district of Katowice, with its own center and railway station. The dormitory is located near a big student residential area consisting of dormitories from almost all higher education institutions in Katowice.

The sports facilities of the university include an indoor swimming pool, 2 gyms, and a sauna.
